None of the animals can figure out just what the grumpalump is. Author: Sarah Hayes Illustrator: Barbara Firth Format: Paperback Published: Clarion Books, 1990
None of the animals can figure out just what the grumpalump is. One by one, they try to get a response out of it. The bear stared, the mole rolled, the bull pulled, and the armadillo used it for a pillow, but the lump just grumped. Finally, at the very end of this gently humorous accumulation rhyme, the gnu blew, and the purpose of the mysterious lump is revealed. Hayes simple text is great fun to read aloud, and Firth's animal characters are expressive and endearing.
