George, the Red Cross knight (thus named because of the red cross on his shield), has been sent by the Queen of the Fairies to slay a horrible dragon. Accompanied by a princess and a dwarf, they travel to meet the dragon, who is only too happy to take on George. The Caldecott Medal-winning book is adapted from Edmund Spenser's Faerie Queen.
