Mosaic of Thought: Teaching Comprehension in a Reader's WorkshopAuthor: Ellin Oliver Keene and Susan Zimmermann Format: Paperback Published: Heinemann, 1997
Keene and Zimmermann set out to discover how students become thoughtful, independent readers who comprehend text at a deep level. They sought to understand the thought processes of proficient readers by examining their poems and essays, classrooms and workshops, humor and reflection. As the result of their research, the authors identified eight cognitive processes used by successful readers. These serve as models for the strategies offered in this book?strategies intended to help children become more flexible, adaptive, independent, and engaged readers.
